This week, it's Equinox Terre again, in a rather ugly yellow jacket! I don't know why I thought this colour scheme would be nice but I was wrong...It's a Fine Point pen and Broad Chisel Tip (watercolour) picture. The first time I coloured it, I reversed the jacket and shirt colours. Since I didn't want to redo the background, I erased them as carefully as possible and repainted. As such, the jacket has an odd border around it. :\ I'll remember better next time...
As for the new title, I spent a VERY long time on it only to discover that the cool variable width lines really don't show up very well at 50% size (the size I scale everything to...) Doh! No mention of the season (other than the snow) or year in it, just a peaceful picture. Smooth ink pen and watercolour.
This is the final gallery of the century! Weird.
This picture was drawn with 2B pencil and watercoloured. What a surprise.
As for the colour of her cap, I don't actually know if it's red or white.
Maybe she has two hats? You'll also notice that her eyestyle is different
from everyone else's. That's one reason I have a hard time drawing her.
As it is, in this CG, here eyes aren't quite right. That's about it.
It's really coincidental because it actually just snowed on Wednesday,
so I couldn't have done this CG any earlier. :}
As one might imagine, this week's CG isn't terribly exciting because well, there are other things I have to do, aren't there? I know, some people plan ahead for New Year's CGs but...I kind of forgot. Oops. It's a rather quick pen sketch + watercolour. Somehow, it turned out to be larger than some of the other recent pictures. I even sliced off 50 pixels from the right and bottom. I don't know what I was thinking (or if I was) when I was colouring it but it looked all right at the time...
See you next year!
This week, we see Rhyme Fleuve, whom I haven't drawn in years. I was rather against having two elves in the gallery one after another but I was paging through characters I hadn't drawn in a while and both Rhyme and Rita came up. So...
I think Rhyme has one of my more interesting clothing designs. However, since I'm so out of practice with her, the picture didn't turn out as well as hoped. I thought it was all right when I originally did it but right now, I think her face is way too big. :\ I think a problem is that when I CG, I tend to zoom in too far and focus on minutiae (which is kind of odd, since I don't have a particularly detailed style...), rather than look at how everything fits together in a whole sense. That's at least one of my problems.
Hmm. I don't know who I'm gonna do for next week...
Ah, well. This week's picture is a bit simpler than last week's in terms
of colouring but the design too longer because I had no clue what she really
looks like, other than a few very old sketches. I'm also very bad at skirts,
I've found. ^_^; I really ought to dedicate more time to these pictures...
:\
Well, now that I've scared everyone off by drawing very pathetically, I have sat myself down and given myself a good talking-to. I made up my mind to spend longer on the pencils because if I have bad pencils, no amount of effort at the computer will help.
On Wednesday, I noticed it was Crys' birthday. Seeing as how I've been struggling on and off to make a new WWWH picture for her, I thought I might as well try to do her for the CG this week. Strangely, it turned out being a rather WWWH-esque picture! I taught myself to ignore the unimportant lines on the scan and so, I don't have to worry so much about cleaning up the picture before scanning. Therefore, I don't have to spend so much time on touch-up and can work on the actual picture itself, even leaving guidelines in for myself when I CG it. How nice.
I'm hoping to maintain some semblence of quality...
This week's CG was done with 2B pencil and watercolour. For her hair,
I used a lot more overlapping than I usually do, in order to more accurately
approximate the variances in her hair colour. In practice, everything blends
together... :\ I noticed that my most recent pictures of Crys have tried
to portray her as 'cool.' (Whether or not I actually succeeded isn't the
point. ^_^; ) So, this time, I tried to go for more of a friendly, cuter
look. Additionally, it was my intention to make it some kind of winter
scene because it's reaaaaaaaly cold here right now and it snowed recently.
But, I chickened out. I'm scared of backgrounds. ;)
In the original 2B pencil picture, the background it white. Mysteriously, when Graphic Workshop for Windows remapped the colour depth to only 4 colours, the white became pink. (I know about this problem but still recommend their products.) Sadly, PC Painter Classic's pencil isn't very convincing. :\
I really liked this picture for some reason. As I look on it now, I
wonder why I thought it was so good. I guess it has to do with how bad
the _day_ was. But I'm feeling much better now. So next week, let's see
what I can come up with, shall we?
I did some rather different things with this title. For one, I actually pencilled in different colours. It's not so noticeable since I coloured it but Dusk was pencilled in dark blue and the dragon was done in dark green. Next, I watercoloured with very bright colours (100% saturation), rather sloppily. I was then going to shift the pencil lines a bit and leave it like that, making it look like a poorly-aligned print. What ended up happening was that I then added more subdued colours and shaded away. In order to shed some of the paint that ran over the lines, I used white paint to partially block out the errors. The result is surprisingly much better than the original pencils seemed to be. There are a few points I would have liked to fix but on the whole, I'm pleased.
This week's CG is Jason A...I felt very unnerved when I noticed that I'd done Melanie last week and that it was Jason this week. The only reason I'd picked him was because there had been too many girls/elves in the gallery so far! Sigh...There's no significance behind this.
I seem to have drawn Jason older than usual. It was a rather fun picture to do. After the serious "detail" work of the Title, this was a nice change of pace. Haphazard "Fine Point Pen" drawing. After last week's PC picture, I was pleasantly surprised by how natural the Mac mouse is. The lines flow much better than on the PC and it was much easier to do, overall.
...
After staring at monitors for this long, I think I'd better take a
break before playing with my Dreamcast. ;)
This time, it's 2B pencil and felt pen: felt marker. So, I got to do a scribblier style. I bet I'll go back to a normal type next week. This picture is 100% of its working size, just because I felt like it.
I hope all of you get to spend time with whoever's special to you.
...
However! Because that one was CGed in Photoshop, it's not coloured very
well. (Besides the fact that I've got at least slightly better.) Thus,
I decided to spend "a lot" of time colouring this one. In fact, I coloured
it was longer than I inked it. (Yep, 'fine point' pen.) I coloured the
whole picture with the 'small watercolor' brush. I didn't change the size
at all. Amazingly, I got it coloured pretty closely. Sigh. If only I'd
spent a bit more time on the pencils. Actually, in the picture, I drew
5 fingers on her right hand. The problem being, of course, that I ought
to have drawn 4. So, I digitally changed the extra finger into her thumb.
Doh...must learn how to count. The wrinkle on her right inner leg was coloured
oddly and now, it looks like a goofy splotch. Bizarre. It looked fine before.
:\ Yep, it took a lot of time to colour. Was it worth is? Dunno.
Kain's the kind of girl who should always be drawn in pencil.
