After playing Sega GT for a few weeks, I finally went back to Sega Rally 2 last night.... After that, Daytona USA (SS) showed me that I really had to learn how to brake, Sega Rally (SS) demonstrated that I just in general didn't know how to drive. After that, Gran Turismo (PSX) taught me how imprecise PSX analogue sticks are (OVERSTEEEEEEER!!!) as well as the fact that you don't need to brake, since you can pinball around the course. (Sega GT has marvellous control, since the DC analogue stick auto-centres MUCH tighter. Of course, there's still a little dead zone in the middle but you can't really get rid of that...)... After that, R4 taught me that not the entire "Ridge Racer" series is garbage. R4 is fun and simple and the JogCon is really a novel idea. I didn't actually sit down and play any other Ridge Racer games at home but the arcade versions (with steering wheels, whee) were just miserable.

Anyway...Sega Rally 2 certainly is a poor port...This is basically the Windows version passed onto the DC!... Compared to the arcade version, lots of details were just ignored. For example, the way mud splashes was utterly simplified and I can't remember what else right now. I just remember playing it in the arcade a few months ago and realizing how poor a job the European team did.... But other than just a few little details, it looks like roughly the same game.

...In fun server-related news, I checked on the Netscape server (where FDN: CGA is centrally located) and it was down last night for a bit.... Most of my web pages (FDN + CFHP) are on the excellent Delphi server and the old stuff is stuck on slow NBCi (old FDN: CGA art + FDN: BL). I was considering giving the Delphi address to FDN and moving FDN: CGA to Netscape but then Netscape went down for a bit.... (It's not exactly back because it used to be on "Prodigy" before it became "Prodigy Internet."

Well, I guess Sega Rally 2 isn't as hard as I thought it was. After playing Sega GT for a few weeks, I finally went back to Sega Rally 2 last night. By playing Sega GT, I learned how to brake! (Maybe I can play Ferrari F355 Challenge one of these years...) This is not the first racing game I've played. I used to play some Test Drive game on the PC. Of course, there's still a little dead zone in the middle but you can't really get rid of that...) Let's see. After that, R4 taught me that not the entire "Ridge Racer" series is garbage. R4 is fun and simple and the JogCon is really a novel idea. I didn't actually sit down and play any other Ridge Racer games at home but the arcade versions (with steering wheels, whee) were just miserable.

Anyway...Sega Rally 2 certainly is a poor port...This is basically the Windows version passed onto the DC! It's running WindowsCE!! Argh. Compared to the arcade version, lots of details were just ignored. For example, the way mud splashes was utterly simplified and I can't remember what else right now. I just remember playing it in the arcade a few months ago and realizing how poor a job the European team did. Sure, I'm being hard on it. There's no reason it shouldn't be perfect. PCs have infinitely scalable hardware, why not? But other than just a few little details, it looks like roughly the same game. I wonder how many PC ports are done out-of-house like that, though. Hmm.

(It's not exactly back because it used to be on "Prodigy" before it became "Prodigy Internet." So, the server was "pages.prodigy.com." It would now be "pages.prodigy.net."
